Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday commended Kolkata Metro for starting additional services and extending timings of its services from Monday; December 7, 2020.
He tweeted and said, “People of Kolkata can rejoice as from 7th December, metro to increase services to 204 from Monday to Saturday. Further enhancing passenger convenience, there will also be an extension of timings and easier travel with services being available every 7 minutes during peak hours.”
Metro Railway, Kolkata is starting to run 204 daily trains instead of 190 daily train services from Monday to Saturday from today, December7,with the first service from both ends – Dum Dum and Kavi Subhash stations – at 7 am instead of 8 am.
The Ministry of Railways has officially stated that the first service will start from both ends, that is, from Dum Dum and Kavi Subhash at 7 am instead of 8 am, and from Noapara at 7.09 am instead of 8.09 am.
The timings will be extended. The last trains will leave Kavi Subhash and Dum Dum at 9:30 pm instead of 9 pm. The official statement has also mentioned that the services will be available every 7 minutes during the morning and evening peak hours.
It has also been said that senior citizens, ladies and children below 15 years, will not be required to produce E-passes throughout the day. E-passes will not be required between 7 am and 8:30 am and 8 pm onwards for all the other passengers.
Post covid19 lockdown, the operations of Metro have been resumed without the use of the tokens. And the travelers are asked to use the smart card in order to avail the metro services since then. But nothing has been mentioned in the official statement about the reissue of tokens.
