Uttar Pradesh Has Become The Center Of Politics Of Hatred And Division, An Open Letter From More Than 100 Former IAS Officers To Yogi Adityanath

The Yogi government’s controversial ‘Prevention of Conversion Act’ has made Uttar Pradesh “at the center of the politics of hatred, division, and bigotry”. Hundreds of former IAS officers, including former national security adviser Shivshankar Menon, former foreign secretary Nirupama Rao and former prime minister’s adviser TKA Nair, have criticized the law. The law was completely based on “love jihad”.
The letter, signed by 104 former IAS officers, called for the immediate appeal and urged all politicians, including the chief minister.
The letter said, “… Uttar Pradesh, which was once famous for its Ganga-Jamuna civilization, has now become a hotbed of politics of hatred, division and bigotry and the institutions of administration have been washed away by the poison of communalism.” Addressing the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the signatories wrote, “Your administration has perpetrated one brutal atrocity after another on young Indians across Uttar Pradesh … all those Indians who just wanted to live as independent citizens in an independent country.”
Former IAS officers have also modified and are concerned through this. One of which took place in Moradabad earlier this month. Bajrang Dal workers were seen forcibly dragging two persons to the police. The Bajrang Dal has accused one of the two men of forcibly marrying a Hindu girl. The signatories wrote, “The unforgivable thing is that the police were in the role of silent spectators in all these incidents even though the activists of extremist Hindutva organizations were arresting and torturing the couple.”
They further added “Prevention of Conversion Act … This Act is generally applied to those Indian Muslim men and Hindu women who have challenged their right to live independently …. Several High Courts, including the Allahabad High Court, have made it clear in such cases. “The constitution is a fundamental human right. The Uttar Pradesh government is violating the constitution through this law.”
