Union Tourism Minister Prahlad Singh Patel arrived in Siliguri on a one-day visit on Friday. He went to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital to see a 10-year-old tribal girl who was raped. Raju Bista, a BJP MP from Darjeeling was also present. He then pointed a finger at the state administration and tweeted about the condition of the government hospital. In his tweet, he mocked North Bengal Medical College and Hospital as a “pile of rubbish”.
A statement from the tourism ministry said Prahlad Singh Patel had inquired about the physical condition of the victim from the doctors at the hospital. He also wants to know how the minor is being treated by the doctors.
In this regard, Union Tourism Minister Prahlad Singh Patel tweeted, “I went to the medical college in Siliguri with MP Raju Bistar and met the juvenile victim, the daughter of the tribal community.” I saw the horrible look of the Bengal government and the grassroots. While Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is the health minister herself, the condition of a medical college in the state is like a pile of garbage.
Meanwhile, the BJP alleges that a grassroots activist was involved in the rape of the indigenous girl. A statement from the tourism ministry said, “At first, the police did not want to take any action. Later, under the pressure of the BJP’s youth front, they filed a case and sent the accused to jail.” The youth arrested in the incident is said to be the president of a Trinamool bloc.
