Former India coach Bharat Arun has recently been appointed as the bowling coach of IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders. A two-day mega auction will be held in Bangalore on February 12 and 13, with 590 players participating. Kolkata will enter the auction with 48 crore Rs. in hand. Kolkata’s main goal will be to strengthen their bowling and retain the core batting lineup of last season.
Two-time champions KKR were runners-up in the last IPL. Apart from West Indies all-rounders Andre Russell (Rs 12 crore) and Sunil Narine (Rs 6 crore), the team also retains Indians Venkatesh Iyer (Rs 8 crore) and Varun Chakravarthy (Rs 8 crore). Shubhman Gill has left Kolkata. He will play for the Ahmedabad franchise. Needless to say, Kolkata has to find a good quality sub for his slot.
There are less than ten days left in the auction. Bowling coach Bharat Arun gave a hint of what the Kolkata team might look like in the auction. Arun said, “We have to select players who can adapt to different situations. Before the epidemic, when we chose bowlers for home conditions, they had to play IPL in Dubai. We did the same thing last year. Then they had to play seven matches in India and the other seven in Dubai”.
