Abhishek Banerjee had filed a case in the Supreme Court against ED’s summons in Delhi. The ED has again summoned Abhishek Banerjee tomorrow to Delhi for questioning over the coal scandal. Twenty-four hours earlier, Abhishek had filed a petition before the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court seeking a speedy hearing of the case.
Chief Justice NV Ramana did not agree for the hearing today. He said he would consider a speedy hearing. But he did not say when the hearing would take place. As a result, the summon to Abhishek at the ED headquarters in Delhi is also valid for tomorrow.
Just last week, Abhishek Banerjee met investigators at the ED headquarters in Delhi. However, his wife Rujira was summoned but he did not come. Abhishek-Rujira also filed a case in the Supreme Court against the summons of ED. On their behalf, today lawyers Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Kapil Sibal referred the case to the Chief Justice and requested for a speedy hearing.
The main argument in Abhishek’s case was that the ED was summoning him to Delhi for questioning in the case of illegal coal smuggling in West Bengal under the Financial Misuse Prevention Act. No boundaries are being observed for the purpose of harassment.
