Uddhav Thackeray, the chief of Shiv Sena, who is also the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, will discuss with his Madhya Pradesh counterpart Shivraj Singh Chouhan about the way forward in view of the Supreme Court’s order directing the State Election Commission (SEC) in MP to notify local body polls within two weeks sans the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) reservation.

As part of a quid pro quo, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan might be prevailed upon to restore the OBC quota for local body elections in Maharashtra. The Supreme Court has directed the State Election Commission (SEC) in Madhya Pradesh to notify local body polls within two weeks sans the Other Backward Classes reservation.

The Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh governments, which were at loggerheads over the restoration of Other Backward Classes (OBC) quota to various municipal bodies, may hold talks to resolve the issue. The top court on Friday told the State Election Commission (SEC) in Madhya Pradesh to prepare a draft notification within two weeks for local body polls in the State and not to include OBC reservation in it. “We will discuss with the state government on ways to restore OBC quota in local bodies today,” Thackeray told reporters here on Saturday before leaving for Bhopal to meet his Madhya Pradesh counterpart Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will meet Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to discuss the way forward to restore the Other Backward Classes (OBC) reservation which was nullified by the Supreme Court, an official said today.

The Maharashtra Chief Minister will hold discussions with his Madhya Pradesh counterpart Shivraj Singh Chouhan on the issue of restoring the Other Backward Classes (OBC) quota in local body elections.

In a setback for the State, the Supreme Court Friday directed the poll panel in Madhya Pradesh to restore Other Backward Classes (OBC) reservation following a petition in 2015 by several upper castes represented by NGO Bharat Bachao Sena.
