The Nation on 2nd October paid tribute to ‘Father of the Nation’ Mahatma Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, fondly called Bapu. On his 152nd birth anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Gandhiji. By Congress President Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi also paid their tribute to Gandhiji.
Born in 1869 in Gujarat’s Porbandar, Gandhi had his early political training in South Africa while working for the local Indian community colour discrimination issue. Even United Nation General Antonio Guterres paid a tribute to Gandhiji in Delhi on Gandhi Jayanti. West Bengal Chief Minister Smt. Mamata Banerjee paid tribute to Bapu and stated today as ‘International Day of Non-Violence’. To mark this day as a new beginning, there will be a ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ mission organized from the Central. Gandhi was one of the biggest contributors to India’s freedom movement and he was always vocal about violence.
