Proud moment for the Bongs as two more Bengali sweets are likely to get Geographical Indication tag soon

If you have a sweet tooth then this news is just for you.
Four years after the West Bengal government applied for the Geographical Indication (GI) status for Sarbhaja and Sarpuria, the wait might end soon. It is expected that within a month or two these sweets will get the much-awaited tag.
How can we forget, the battle between two States (West Bengal and Odisha) over the Geographical Indication tag for Rosogolla in 2017? Later, Odisha applied for the same GI tag for Rosogolla in 2018. Even a rectification petition was filed by Ramesh Chandra Sahoo, Chairman of Regional Development Trust in Odisha. Sahoo claimed that Odisha should receive the GI tag instead of West Bengal. However, the bittersweet battle didn’t last for long as Odisha failed to provide substantial evidence within the stipulated period. Later, the GI registry dismissed the state’s cancellation petition.
After Rosogolla, two more sweets might get the Geographical Indication.
